Reference and Instruction
Reference Services
The Reference librarians, located at the Information and Research Desk on the third floor of the Library, strive to provide prompt and courteous service to all library users. If you need help finding books and materials, researching a paper or assignment, citing your sources, using the online databases, or any other type of information, please speak to the Librarian at the desk.

Library Instruction
In support of Northeast State's educational goals, we offer Library instruction to classes to assist students in becoming more proficient in their use of the Library and its resources. Librarians instruct classes on how to find information from a variety of sources in the Library including the Online Databases and Library Catalog. We can conduct this instruction in the library, in your classroom, or via Zoom. Librarians will teach classes on any campus or at any school where you teach. We are dedicated to the concept of the lifelong learner and provide classes, literature, and instructional programs to enhance the learning process.
Instructors must schedule Library instruction at least one week in advance indicating specific date and time, type of instruction requested, and the number of students in the class. To schedule a session, please call the library at 423-354-2429 (ext. 3429) or email us at libmail@northeaststate.edu.
In addition to in-person or Zoom instruction, the Library also offers video tutorials that you can embed into your class in D2L. To request tutorials you can place in your class in D2L, please email aslippo@northeaststate.edu or call 423-354-5242 (ext. 5242).
Research Guides
The librarians have created guides on subjects and topics, as well as for specific courses and resources, to help students get started with searching and finding sources for papers, projects, and your own research needs. There are also guides on how to use resources such as Browzine, JSTOR, and more. We are also happy to work with you as faculty and staff to create guides for your classes and departments to help meets your needs and the needs of students. Reserves
Reserves are designed to enable broad access by students to course materials. These materials may be books, articles, book chapters, audio-visual materials, etc. To place materials on reserve, complete the online reserves form and bring them to the Circulation Desk on the second floor of the Library. Instructors may assign a loan period for each item on reserve - one hour, two hours, one day, three days, seven days, etc. Instructors may also designate items as "Library Use Only" if they do not want the items to circulate.
Copyright
Copyright is an important topic for our faculty and staff. For this reason, we have provided a Copyright Guide to help you navigate the waters for both your professional and personal use.
Inter-library Loan
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) allows you to borrow books or acquire articles that we do not own in our Library. The time it takes to obtain an interlibrary loan book or article varies. Articles may be received faster than books, usually within the week, while books may take two to three weeks to arrive. Only three items can be requested at one time. This service is free for students. Some libraries impose surcharges and photocopying charges for their services, which will be collected from faculty, staff, or community borrowers. To request books or articles, fill out the appropriate form below and we will contact you when the item(s) arrives.
