This guide is intended as a general research guide for Women's History.  Use it to find resources in the library and online, as well as information about writing and researching.

The tabs across the top or the table of contents will take you to specific areas, as will links on the various pages.  Most links within the guide will open in a new window so that you still have easy access to the research guide.

We want you to be as successful as possible in your education and life.  At the library, you can get materials to complete class assignments and papers, go into more depth on subjects that interest you, and find books, movies, and music for your enjoyment. 

To make your experience all that it can be, the staff is here to help.  On the main floor (2nd floor), you will find the circulation desk.  This is where you check out any items you want to take with you.  Also, if your instructor has something on reserve for your class, this is where you need to be.  You are able to check out books, videos, and CD's to take home with you.  You can also get calculators, headphones, anatomy models, and reserve items to use in the library.  Most of these items are located here on the main floor.  You can find out what is available in the library using the library catalog and the online databases.

The third floor houses the materials that are for use only in the library - reference books and periodicals (magazines, journals, and newspapers), as well as a room of circulating books on Language and Literature and the oversized book collection, and a section in the Reference Room that contains the circulating art books.  There are plenty of tables and study carrels up here where you can use these materials at your leisure.

On the third floor, you will also find the librarians.  There is normally a librarian on duty whenever the library is open, except on Saturdays.  They are all ready and eager to assist you with your research needs.  Whether you need help locating sources for a paper, formatting your citations, or just finding information about something that interests you, the librarians are here for you!

Even if you can't make it into the library, you can still talk to a librarian during regular hours.  Just call (423) 354-2429 and ask for a librarian.  You can also chat live with a librarian, or send a text or email by visiting our contact page.  Don't spend hours searching and getting frustrated - talk to a librarian first, and get started in the right direction!
