Borrowing & Circulation

The Library's goal is to provide an accurate and prompt process for circulating materials. Students, faculty, staff, and community users may borrow books and other materials for specified loan periods. Periodicals and reference items remain in the Library as this assures maximum access to these materials.

Who is eligible to use the Library?

  • Students - Must be currently enrolled.
  • Faculty/Staff - Includes all current faculty, adjunct faculty, and staff.
  • Community - Includes local residents. This service is free and users must complete the online Community Borrowers Registration Form. A valid driver's license and proof of Tennessee residence must be presented. Only five items may be checked out at any given time.

How long can materials be checked out?

  • Books, Music CDs, and Audiobooks - 5 weeks
  • Popular Videos & DVDs - 7 days (Only 3 titles may be checked out at a time.)
  • Periodicals and Reference Books - Library use only
  • Reserve Items - Varies

Most items, except for Reserves, can be renewed one time.

Library Fines

There are no overdue fines for late materials; however, materials are expected back on the date they are due. Overdue notices are emailed as a courtesy to ensure that all library users may use materials in a timely manner. After the item(s) are 42 days overdue, a bill will be sent and your records will be encumbered until the materials are returned or the bill is paid. Furthermore, if materials are not returned by the end of the semester, students will be encumbered and not be able to receive grades or register for classes.

Cooperative Borrowing

Northeast State has a reciprocal borrowing agreement with King University Libraries. All King University Students, Faculty, and Staff have borrowing privileges at the Northeast State Basler Library. Also, Northeast State Students, Faculty, and Staff have borrowing privileges at King University Libraries. King University students can fill out the King University Reciprocal Borrowing form and show a valid King ID to access Northeast State materials.
