Mission Statement

The Early Childhood Education program at Northeast State Community College provides quality
instruction and mentoring which empowers candidates to become reflective early childhood
education professionals and lifelong learners. The Early Childhood Education program
advocates best practices and strives for excellence in preparing candidates to make a positive
difference for children and families in diverse communities. The Early Childhood Education
program aligns coursework with evidence-based research that enables candidates to become
quality educators by completing an associate of applied science (AAS) degree program in early
childhood education.

As indicated, the program’s overarching mission statement provides guidance and directions for
the program to develop a clear identity of serving the community's needs through preparing and
supporting a quality workforce to serve the young children and their families in the community.
Such an overarching mission guides the development of the program’s core
values embedded in the conceptual framework that drives the development and delivery of an
early childhood education program that supports the National Association for the Education of
Young Children (NAEYC) professional standards.

Program Values

The mission of the Early Childhood Education program is founded upon a set of core values that
drive the conceptual framework to guide the development of our program and the delivery of
courses within our program. The Early Childhood Education program is dedicated to educating
candidates who will become responsible and effective educators. The Early Childhood
Education program embraces these guiding beliefs:

  • accessibility – all citizens should have the opportunity to reach their full potential through
    participation in higher education
  • cooperation – forming partnerships and working with others facilitates the achievement of
    common goals
  • diversity – creativity and achievement are fostered through respect for all individuals and
    their ideas
  • excellence – quality is ensured by using information gathered through a continuous
    planning, assessment, and evaluation process
  •  integrity – success occurs in an environment of honesty, openness, fairness, and trust
where people are treated with dignity and respect
