Research and Writing Basics: Citation Guides

The Library has created the following resources to assist you in formatting your papers and citing your sources in MLA format. The citation guide will help you create a works cited page(s) in your paper and show you examples on how to format each entry.  It also provides an overview of and additional resources for the overall style of your paper.  The tutorial will take you through a brief overview of MLA citation style.  If you need further assistance with citation, please see the reference librarian on 3rd floor or call 423.354.2429.

Tips for ensuring accurate citations:

• Gather all of your citation information when you find a source that you might use.  It can sometimes be difficult to locate a source later in order to get that information.  Getting the information right away ensures that you have whet you need, and you won't have to spend additional time finding it again.


• If you copy or print a source, write the citation information on it, or staple a separate page with the citation to the document.  This will save you time when writing and citing.


• Use the citation guides provided by the library.  They are developed using materials you will find in the collection and cover almost any resource you would use.
