Gale Literature contains current literary information from more than 650,000 full-text articles, critical essays, and biographies of over 130,000 authors. It also and features more than 150,000 full-text poems, short stories, essays, speeches, and plays. This database includes the content of Literature Resource Center, LitFinder, Scribner Writers Series, and Twayne's Authors series. 


  • Full Text - finds articles available to you in full text - this is the default
  • Peer-reviewed - check this box to limit your search to peer-reviewed articles
  • Subject Guide Search - can help you find the specific wording used for the subject you need


  • Content Type -The default view shows Literature Criticism, but you can also choose Biographies, Topic & Work Overviews, Reviews & News, Primary Sources & Literary Works, or Multimedia, depending on what is available for your particular search.
  • Search Within Results - you can use this to look for a term or name with in the list of results you already have
  • Subjects - You can use this to limit your results to only those with a specific subject
  • Person - About - limit the results to who they are about
  • Name of Work limit the results to those about a particular work of literature
  • Document Types - This can help you narrow by article, brief article, review, etc.
